Throw away the road map - learn to change lanes

We constantly get asked for our product roadmap - which we are glad to share, but in a lot of cases the expectations of what the roadmap will show are not in line with the way we use the roadmap internally. Many people are expecting to see a project plan that lays out the details of new functionality along with our timeline for each delivery. Our product roadmap looks much different. Is your data yours?

Data ownership is a concern of most SAAS cloud customers and is made even more complicated if multiple entities are involved. If a customer transfers their data to a SAAS provider who then outsources its infrastructure to another storage or process provider, who is responsible if the customer’s information is unavailable, lost or corrupted? I prefer much faster turnaround on conversations and the increased productivity that results from it. In the GIS world, sharing of information and maps has been a little behind the curve. Many companies still email kmz or shape files back and forth with address, pole, route, or other network information because it’s about the most efficient way to share such data. Thankfully Esri has been investing in a solution to this problem called ArcGIS Online (AGOL).
