Throw away the road map - learn to change lanes

We constantly get asked for our product roadmap - which we are glad to share, but in a lot of cases the expectations of what the roadmap will show are not in line with the way we use the roadmap internally. Many people are expecting to see a project plan that lays out the details of new functionality along with our timeline for each delivery. Our product roadmap looks much different. Of course, we have an internal development schedule that defines the functionality we are adding and time frames for each release, but that is much different than our product roadmap.

Our product roadmap is used to indicate the direction in which our products are heading, but it’s not meant to be a turn-by-turn view of the trip. We show our direction as it relates to what development platforms we will use, along with the third party applications we will support going forward. Our roadmap also outlines new functionality at a very high level along with the quarter the release will be available in.

We understand our clients need to see where we are headed, and, as I said, we are happy to share our vision. But a product roadmap is just that - a vision that shows your planned destinations over time while leaving flexibility to change course to meet the needs of the fast-paced industry we serve. If your fiber management solution is too rigid, in architecture or in vision, to be able to quickly adapt to changes in your industry, perhaps it’s time to give 3-GIS a call.

If you would like to learn more about our products today and where we are heading in the future, please give us a call.
